What are the Google shopping products feed requirements?

There are three forms of feed attributes required by Google: Required attributes, Attributes depending upon the circumstances, and Optional Attributes.

Required Attributes in Google shopping

These attributes reflect the mandatory product information which a user is required to provide Google for advertising his products on its platforms. Given below are some of the required attributes which we have handpicked based on their importance and their potential impact on your promotions:

  • ID

Make sure you use a unique identifier for each product and keep it the same while updating your product data. 

Example: A2B4

Syntax: Max 50 characters

  • Title

Enter your product’s name accurately, and try to keep it within the range of 150 characters. Do not add promotional stuff in the product’s name itself!!

Example: Cadbury Dairy Milk

  • Description

Provide the correct description of your product, and do not include any link within it.

Syntax: Max 5000 characters

  • Links

Give your product’s landing page, and the URL of your product’s main image while submitting the product information.

  • Price

Provide a correct price of your product, and enter the accurate mode of currency and currency code of your target country.

  • Availability

Submit the product availability, and ensure that it matches your landing page.

Attributes depending upon the circumstances

Some attributes are required to be submitted depending upon the country, nature of products, and various other factors. Let’s find out some of those attributes important for your business:

  • Brand

It is mandatory to provide the brand name of the product for all new products, except movies, books, and musical recording brands.

  • Condition

Mentioning the condition of your product is necessary in case of used or refurbished products, and optional in case of new products.

  • Size

You are required to mention the size of all clothing and shoe products if your target countries are Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, otherwise, it is optional for other products and countries.

  • Color

Provide the color of all the apparel products if your target countries are Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, otherwise, it is not mandatory for other products and countries.

  • Age group and gender

It is mandatory to mention the age group and gender of all apparel products in Brazil, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US, and enhanced free listings for the same category, while it is optional for all other products!!

Optional Attributes

You are not required to provide these attributes compulsorily in your product feed. However, they enhance your promotion quality and product description in the eyes of potential customers. So, let us understand some of these attributes:

  • Product Type

Always mention the full product category that you define for your product. For example, include Home > Men > T-Shirts > Polo T-Shirts instead of just T-Shirts.

  • Product Measurement and Weight

You can also provide the measurement and weight of your product in the advertisement so that a customer can make an informed choice as per his requirements.

  • Product details

Consider adding technical specifications or additional details of your product in case the nature of your product requires additional information.

  • Links

You can add additional image links and mobile links to enhance the graphic description of your products.
