How to Cancel Google Ads Account

Google Ads allows companies to market their products and services by showing ads for their products and services in the form of fixed pictures or videos.

However, there may come a point when you no longer want to promote or advertise in Google Ads, and when that happens you might ask yourself how to temporarily stop Google Ads or can I cancel my Google Ads Account?

Yes, you absolutely can. Let us understand how!

Cancelling your Google Ads Account

You can cancel your Ads account at any time. You do not need to stop your advertisements one by one before cancelling your account since when you cancel your account, all of your ads will be stopped within 24 hours.

Keep in mind that if you cancel your account, you will still be responsible for any charges that have accumulated. If there is any money remaining in your account, it will be returned to your payment method within four weeks.

You may still view the data in your Google Ads account after you cancel by signing in to Google Ads.

You can also reactivate your account at any moment if you wish to use Google Ads again in the future.

Requirements to fulfil before you step into the cancellation process

You will need administrative access to your account as well as a billing setup to cancel your Google Ads Account. If you have a management account and wish to cancel one of your accounts, the account you want to cancel must have been established by your account.

Step by step process to cancel your Google Ads Account

  1. Go to your Google Ads account Preferences.
  2. Click the Account Status section to expand it.
  3. Choose Cancel my account.

What happens after you cancel your account?

Once you are done with the cancellation process of Google Ads account, the following will take place:

  • All of the canceled account’s remarketing lists, including Customer Match, will be changed to Closed, preventing new users from being added to them.
  • About a month after your account is canceled, the membership term of any remarketing lists including Customer Match will be changed to one day. All users will be removed from these lists as a result of this action.
  • Lists shared with other accounts will no longer be available for other accounts after the users are deleted.

Reactivating your account

You may always reactivate your deactivated account. If the account stays dormant for three months after reactivation and does not serve any advertisements, it will be immediately terminated again.

Keep in mind that terminated accounts will not be available using the Google Ads API. Before you can use the API to see data or make changes to the account, you’ll need to reactivate it.
