New Jersey

Your customers search on both sides of the Hudson.

A Jersey City firm competes with Manhattan firms for the same clients. A Bergen County brand ships to all fifty states. New Jersey businesses work two markets at once and usually pay to show up in one: a positioning problem before it's a budget one.

Two New Jersey clients. Named, with numbers.

Most agency location pages claim a city and show nothing. These are both real, both still New Jersey businesses you can go and look at, and both stayed longer than a year.

Law Office of Alexander Schachtel

schachtelaw.com

A civil litigation firm at 101 Hudson Street handling business disputes, partnership breakups and personal injury across New Jersey and New York. The work that mattered wasn't the ads: it was what happened after someone called. We built the site, ran Google Search and Call ads into purpose-built landing pages, and put SMS and email automation behind every enquiry so nobody waited hours for a callback.

Partnership disputes and civil litigation carry high case values and long consideration cycles, which is exactly the shape where speed-to-response decides who gets retained.

Royal Touch Caviar

rtcaviar.com

A purveyor of Osetra and Beluga hybrid caviar shipping overnight nationwide, with order values from $125 to over $1,000. We built the Shopify store and ran the whole programme: paid media, social, and SMS and email automation, for a year.

The largest single gain came from the least glamorous work. Adding and configuring upsell and bundling apps lifted average order value by half, because a customer buying a $129 tin will readily add blinis, crème fraîche and a mother-of-pearl spoon when asked at the right moment. Conversion rate work added another fifth on top of that.

What's specific to here

New Jersey has problems that a national playbook misses.

Agencies run the same campaign structure in Newark that they'd run in Phoenix. It underperforms here for reasons that are geographic rather than tactical.

Four we deal with on most accounts.

  • You're bidding against Manhattan budgets

A Hudson County firm competing for "business litigation attorney" is in the same auction as Midtown firms with far larger budgets. Winning means competing on specificity and geography rather than on spend: it changes the whole keyword strategy.

  • Your service area crosses a state line

Many New Jersey businesses genuinely serve both states, and campaigns built around one metro miss half the demand. Bar rules, licensing and messaging all differ across the river too, so it isn't only a targeting setting.

  • "Near me" means something different here

Hudson County is dense and transit-shaped. Someone in Hoboken may find Jersey City more convenient than a town four miles inland. Radius targeting drawn in miles gets this wrong constantly.

  • County matters more than city

People search and think in counties (Bergen, Hudson, Essex, Union, Middlesex) far more than in most states. Campaigns and location pages built only around city names miss how the market actually describes itself.

Questions

Before you call.

Do you have an office in New Jersey? +
No: we're at 261 Madison Avenue in Manhattan, which is a PATH ride from Jersey City and about twenty minutes from Hoboken. We'd rather say that plainly than list a virtual address in Newark, which is what most agencies claiming a New Jersey presence are actually doing. We come to you for kickoffs and quarterly reviews, and the rest works remotely.
Can you show results from New Jersey clients? +
Yes, and they're named above with figures: a Jersey City litigation firm at 5x average ROAS across three years, and a luxury eCommerce brand where average order value rose by half. Both businesses still exist and you can look at both sites. That's a deliberately higher bar than most location pages clear, and it's the only thing that makes one worth reading.
We serve both New Jersey and New York. Does that complicate things? +
It complicates the setup and it's usually an advantage once it's built. Two markets means two sets of search behaviour, two competitive landscapes, and often different messaging: someone searching from Manhattan for a Jersey City firm has different concerns than someone searching from Hoboken. We build these as separate campaign structures rather than one campaign with a wide radius, which is the most common mistake we see on cross-river accounts.
What does it cost? +
Engagements start at $5,000/month covering media and management, with media billed at cost and our fee stated flat rather than as a percentage of spend. Smaller pieces of work are available separately: a CRO audit at $1,500 or $3,500, or listings management from $199/month per location.
Do you work with law firms specifically? +
A large share of our work is legal, and New Jersey adds its own considerations, the NJ Rules of Professional Conduct govern attorney advertising, and what you can claim about results differs from what a general business can say. We build compliance review into campaign creation rather than after it. See law firm marketing for how that works in practice.
How fast do you start? +
Paid campaigns typically go live within two to three weeks of kickoff, most of which is tracking setup and landing page work rather than campaign build. Meaningful performance data takes 60 to 90 days, because the first month is largely spent excluding traffic that doesn't convert. Organic and local SEO run on a longer clock: four to six months before the trend is clear.
